- COMMUNITY NOTICES
Good afternoon families,
I am hoping you and your family enjoyed a relaxing holiday break. I would like to extend a warm welcome to Gina Nock who will be working in our school office on Mondays and Tuesdays. Gina has relocated from the mainland and is enjoying getting to know our school community. Mrs Sandra Becker will be in the office Thursdays and Fridays.
Last Friday our School Captains Brooke and Charlotte represented our school community and laid a beautiful wreath at the Evandale Anzac Commemoration Service. The girls also supported the service by handing wreaths to other community organisations to lay at the cenotaph. It was lovely to receive such positive feedback on the engagement of the school in community events and the professional manner in the way Brooke and Charlotte conducted themselves. Well done girls!
Next Tuesday the 6th of May Mrs Becker and Mrs Shelton have organised a Pizza/Cupcake Fundraiser Day to support our library update and extension of our book collection. Pizza and Cupcake Day order forms went home earlier this week. Please return to the school office by THIS Friday the 2nd of May. We would like to thank Domino’s Kings Meadows for their kind donation of pizzas supporting this event and Mrs Becker and Mrs Shelton for their amazing co-ordination of the fundraiser.
You may have heard our choir sing at the assembly last term – they were amazing. Mrs. Emily Booth has kindly volunteered her time on Monday afternoons to work with a small group of students, helping them to perfect their melodies and enhance their vocal skills. We look forward to the possibilities that this collaboration may hold, and the growth and achievements our students will experience through singing. A big thankyou to Mrs Emily Booth for supporting us with this.
Next Friday the 9th of May, several of our students will participate as part of the Northern Midlands Team at the State Athletic Carnival at St Leonards. We congratulate Oliver R, Jack, Darci, Rivah, Cooper and Casey for their outstanding performance in the recent NMSSSA Athletics Carnival at the end of last term and for making the Northern Midlands team. Wishing you the best of luck!
Please let the School Association Community Champions if you can help with our Election Day fundraising on Saturday or the Mother’s Day stall next Thursday and Friday.
Our Community Champions will be holding a BBQ THIS Saturday – at the only polling booth in Evandale – situated at our school. Polling is from 8am until 6pm and would like as many helpers as possible.
There will be:
*Egg and bacon muffins (morning)
*Ham and cheese croissants
*Sausages and Hamburgers (lunchtime)
*Some sweet options
*And running a coffee machine.
Please let Amanda Smith know if you can help and spread the word with your family and community members – that delicious food options are for sale – by cash or card. All money raised will support our library upgrade and extension of our book collection.
Next Thursday 8th (for Kinders) and Friday 9th of May (P-6 students) our Community Champions will be hosting a stall with items that can be purchased by students for Mother’s Day.
Term 2 is a very busy term and to keep you updated a Term 2 Parent Friendly Calendar is attached. Hardcopies are available from the school office.
On Friday the 25th of April, Evandale’s ANZAC service was held at the Evandale Memorial Park in High Street. We represented the school and laid the Evandale Primary School wreath along with helping give out the other wreaths that were being presented. The day started with the Air Force Cadets doing a formation march around the centre pole. Then a student from Kings Meadows High School read the poem ‘Flanders Fields’. The ANZAC address was read by an ex- air force solider. Local business wreaths were laid followed by the personal wreaths. We finished by singing the New Zealand and Australian National Anthem and enjoying a lovely morning tea.
Charlotte wore some medals from her great grandfather Fredrick who served in WWII. He received 4 medals and one of the medals was the military cross. The military cross was given to soldiers who showed extreme bravery and is a very rare medal to recieve. Charlotte's family are very proud to have his medals.

WALK TO SCHOOL DAY - FRIDAY 16TH MAY
Meet Rivah and Eli outside the office for a sticker if you walk to school.
This day is a great opportunity for families to walk to school together and have conversations about being a safe road user.
Here are some tips to help make walking to school a regular part of your routine:
Plan your route:
- Take some time to plan the safest and most convenient route to walk to school. Consider pedestrian crossings, footpaths, and traffic lights.
Set a schedule:
- Decide on the days and times you'll walk to school each week. Consistency is key to forming a new habit. Try to stick to your schedule as much as possible.
Safety first:
- ALWAYS hold your child’s hand until they are at least 8 years old. Closely supervise them until they are at least 10 years old.
- ALWAYS hold your child's hand:
- when on the footpath
- when crossing the road or
- when in a car park
Teach your child about being a safe pedestrian:
- This includes watching out for driveways, walking facing traffic when there are no footpaths and always Stop, Look, Listen, Think, everytime you cross the road.
Avoid distractions:
- Set a good example by putting your phone away. Focus on your surroundings. If you need to use your phone, stop in a safe place.
Make it fun:
- Keep the walks enjoyable by talking about what you see and about your day. This can help make the time go quickly and make walking to school something your child looks forward to.
Join forces:
- Coordinate with other families in your neighbourhood to walk to school together. Not only does this make it more fun for the kids, but it also provides additional safety in numbers.
Celebrate achievements:
- Celebrate achievements along the way to keep motivation high. Whether it's reaching a certain number of walks or noticing improvements in fitness, acknowledging progress can help reinforce the habit.
Practise, Practise, Practise:
- The more supervised pedestrian experiences your child can get the better, so they will be ready to safely travel by themselves when they are older.
Walk Safely to School Day can be the start of a new routine.
Our new navy and yellow Evandale Beanies are now for sale in the office for $20!
Limited beanies are available and can be worn by anyone: students, family members, sporting clubs of Evandale.
This is an SLC fundraiser and all proceeds will go towards refurbishing our school library.
